Glaucoma is a type of eye diseases which causes damage to the optic nerve and vision loss, while Eyelashes hypotrichosis is a condition where a patient is detected with inadequate amount of eyelashes.

Glaucoma is very serious disease, a common type of it is Open-angle glaucoma, and Closed-angle glaucoma and normal-tension glaucoma are the less common type. In Open-angle glaucoma first the Side vision may begin to decrease followed by central vision. As it develops slowly over time and there is no pain, it becomes difficult to detect it in early stages. Closed-angle glaucoma can present gradually or it can occur suddenly. The sudden occurrence may involve severe eye pain, blurred vision, mid-dilated pupil, redness of the eye, and nausea. It is been found that 6 to 67 million people have glaucoma globally and out of which the disease affects about 2 million people in the United States.

Causes of Glaucoma:
A positive family history increases the percentage cause of it.
Increased pressure within the eye (Ocular hypertension) is the important risk factor in most glaucoma.
There has not been found any evidences of whether any deficiency leads to glaucoma.

How glaucoma can be treated?

Any of the following method can be used by the doctors based on the severity of the glaucoma.

Prescription eye drops - Bimatoprost is a globally accepted medication utilized for the treatment of Glaucoma, and is also been prescribed to the patients who want to have longer and thicker eyelashes.
Bimatoprost is a prescribed medication which contains Ophthalmic Solution. Bimatoprost has FDA sanction and can be extensively used for both the issues with the eye i.e. Glaucoma and Hypotrichosis.

Surgery – Laser or traditional surgery can help fluid drain from the eye.

Are there any preventive measures for glaucoma?

Regular eye examination can help detect glaucoma in early stage and when given correct treatment has the best chance of preventing blindness. If your doctor prescribes eye drops or other medications, take the dosage exactly as described by the doctor. Consult your doctor if any side effect is seen as early as possible.

Side effect due to use of eye drop-Bimatoprost:
Usually experienced ill-effects of Bimatoprost include difficulty while breathing, thick eyelashes, light sensitivity, eyes pain, and itching, Stimulate lasting darkening of the iris to brown, watery or dry eyes, eye irritation, eye discomfort, eyelid redness, darkening of the eyelid or the area below the eye expel from eyes, red eyes and so on. An inappropriate growth of hair can be seen if applied improperly in use of eyelash hypotrichosis treatment.

Once you lose the vision due to glaucoma it tends to be permanent. Hence it becomes very important that a person have a regular eye check up.
