Description: Next Logo

I have a twin brother. I play frisbee golf. I'm a skateboarder, snowboarder and wakeboarder. I'm originally from Los Angeles, California. I love fast cars, stand-up comedy, playing guitar and playing bass.

HOW DID YOU GET INTO WORLD OF LOGO DESIGN?

Growing up, I always had a love for art. In 4th grade, I participated in a poster design contest promoting electricity safety. To my surprise, I finished first place, beating the 5th and 6th graders, and getting my photo in the local paper.

In high school, I used to create all the local bands' concert flyers and posters. I would also give the local punk rockers fake tattoos with a sharpie. To help me pay attention in class, I would draw little symbols and iconic images all over my notes.

During my high school days, I also found a great love for graffiti. I think this is what ultimately led me to my love for typography. Then, during my senior year of high school, I took a class on graphic design. After that, I was hooked. Following graduation, I enrolled at Belmont University to earn a BA in Design Communications, and the rest is history.

HOW IMPORTANT IS A LOGO?

A logo is what sells the product or service. It's your company's first impression. If it isn't perfect, your audience will know...whether you think they do or not.

WHAT MAKES A GREAT LOGO?

A great logo will have a solid concept. A great logo will have an appropriate execution of the concept for the specific market. A great logo will be unique. It will maintain a professional level of craftsmanship. It will have immediate recognition. And most importantly, it will be memorable and timeless.

YOUR FAVOURITE LOGO MADE BY YOU

Ann ambigram. I learned about Johnathan Langdon right around the time I found my love for logo design. When I discovered the ambigram, I was hooked. I knew I had to create one for myself. My wife started talking about the idea of getting another tattoo. She wanted it on her wrist, so I thought this would be a perfect solution. This logo has gained me more attention and recognition then any of my other logos I've created.

YOUR FAVOURITE LOGO MADE BY OTHER DESIGNER

There are so many, but one of my favorites is the General Electric logo. It has been in use for over a 100 years now! That's what I call timeless.

CHEAP LOGOS: YES OR NO? WHY?

No. If you have a cheap looking logo, your business is going to look cheap as well. Invest the time and money into your logo project, and it will take you much farther than you can imagine. You get what you pay for. I can't stress this enough. A vast majority of my clients are one's that have been through the logo process before, but were unsuccessful. Don't let this happen to you.

WHERE DO YOU USUALLY SEEK INSPIRATION?

The majority of my inspiration comes from nature and everything that surrounds me. I carry my sketch book with me everywhere I go. You never know when a great idea is going to strike, so you have to be prepared to document your ideas. If you don't, you will forget those ideas. And once those ideas are gone, they may never come back.
